Guest speakers addressed assemblies for pupils in Years 10 and 11 on Thursday 30 November, as part of the school’s ongoing drive to promote wellbeing. Sergeant Emmanuel Ottih, MBE, one of the co-Founders of the Defence Stammering Network (DSN) and a passionate campaigner for stammering awareness, described how he overcame many personal obstacles to get to where he is today. His work includes leading teams in difficult situations and addressing large groups of people frequently. Our pupils were spellbound!
Liz Greenwood of Catholic Care told pupils about the support which the organisation offers to those who are young carers. A young carer is someone aged under 18 who looks after a parent, grandparent or sibling who may have a disability, serious illness, a mental health issue or be dealing with an alcohol, drug or substance problem. Both speakers were warmly received.
