Remembrance Services
Our entire school community came together in November to observe our annual Remembrance Day services. Our head students read from our book of remembrance, reminding us to pray for all past members of our school community. We also reflected on the impact of conflicts from the First World War until the present day and prayed for peace in our world. Students from uniformed organisations proudly wore their uniforms and Year 10 students led reflections about their visit to the battlefields of France and Belgium last year. Two students also performed ‘Green Fields of France’ as a duet, which has been a long standing tradition on this occasion. All members of our school community also observed a period of silence as part of these services.
Chaplaincy Group Poppy Appeal
Members of our Faith in Action and Chaplaincy groups sold poppies to support the Royal British Legion throughout October and November. Staff and students wore poppies during the Remembrance services.
Collective Worship
This half term, collective worship has been planned by Year 11 students, who helped us to consider ways in which we can serve our community throughout Advent, Year 10 students, who prayed for those who are suffering through loneliness, poverty or conflict during this season of joy; and 8EMY, who prayed for the environment and the courage to be good stewards of the earth. Students spend part of an RE lesson in the chapel, reflecting on the message of the gospel and discussing the ways they can put this into practice through prayer and action.
