We celebrated Green Careers Week (3-7 November) in school. This event offers students the opportunity to explore careers which contribute towards sustainability and preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. These roles may be in any sector, not just those traditionally seen as ‘green’.
Across all subjects, students looked at careers related to the curriculum which work to support sustainability and environmental protection. They looked at ways in which different subjects can support green careers and the wide variety of roles which impact on the environment.
Year 8 students were involved in a STEM day with Smallpeice Trust, giving students chance to explore careers in technology and engineering which promote environmental awareness and greener futures.
Year 9 students also enjoyed workshops with Leeds University and assemblies for all year groups focused on green careers and the factors to consider when considering future careers. This was linked to the virtues and the idea of moral ambition – choosing a career which will allow them to use their unique talents to improve the world around them and become the person God calls them to be.
