Battlefields 2025

Battlefields 2025

A group of 40 Year 9 pupils and travelled to the Battlefields of France and Belgium in May to visit the battlefields and memorials to those who gave their lives during the First World War. They travelled on the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, where they enjoyed some live music and a chance to enjoy a meal together and catch up with their friends before travelling on to their accommodation in Ypres.

This trip is a special pilgrimage offering pupils the opportunity to show their respects to those who lost their lives in the First World War and to gain further understanding of the events of the First World War and how “We Will Remember Them”.

Where possible, students are offered the chance to visit memorials of family members around the area and this is always a special moment for staff and students to be able to reflect on the sacrifices made by their relatives. A small group of students also represented our school community in laying a wreath at the Menin Gate during the Last Post ceremony.
