Celebrating Earth Day with author Mark Ballabon.

Celebrating Earth Day with author Mark Ballabon.

Recently, we welcomed Mark Ballabon – author, philosopher, environmentalist and more! Mark delivered a creative writing workshop to one of our Year 9 English classes and climate workshops to several classes including our Eco Council and Science magazine.

Mark discussed his book, ‘Home’, a wonderful read for Key Stage 3 students, which explores the environment, relationships, philosophy and includes beautiful illustrations.

The sessions were a fantastic success. Miss Gold commented, “Mark’s Climate workshop with the Eco Council and Science magazine was fantastic. He gave clear examples of how the choices he makes every day relate to the environment, including what he buys, eats and wears, and challenged us to make similar choices. He also got the students to act out a section of his book in which the characters are arguing and discussing the state of the planet and what will happen if we continue to behave as we do. It was a clever way of getting the students to think of the planet as our home and something we must protect at all costs.”

Students and staff enjoyed the sessions, which fired up the imaginations of our students and tapped into their individual voices!
