Debating success at the Leeds salon competition

After a gruelling evening of debate covering a range of contentious issues from free speech to the role of government in our lifestyles, CHCHS won a fiercely contested final debate on the topic “Western museums should repatriate cultural artefacts”.

In addition to the team’s success, our students won two individual prizes. Sam A was named ‘Highly Commended Individual’ while Korede A was ‘Best Individual’ – the judges couldn’t believe that this was her first competitive debate!

As part of their prize, the students received tickets to return to the Royal Armouries Museum for their jousting competition during the Easter holidays and were also invited to visit Baroness Claire Fox for afternoon tea in the House of Lords. Korede was also offered a four-day internship with headline sponsor Womble Bond Dickinson.
