Year 8 Girls Football

Report written by Sophia:

The Year 8 girls football team this year is going great, being in the last 8 in the country out of 400 teams! Winning our fifth round match against English Martyrs School, our confidence rose as we awaited our next match ready to be the winning team! It wasn’t easy and the opposition gave us a strong challenge with their skilful strikers and walls of defence. However, our team took their chances up front, sliding past their defence to score. Our defence also protected their goal at all costs and our pacey wingers were ready to back the team up anytime. As we entered the sixth round, we knew a win against a strong side from Newcastle would put us into the last 8. We went into the match determined and strong, but the first half was a struggle and we went in at half time with the game in the balance at 1-1. We went into the second half with mixed feelings but that quickly changed as we got the next goal from our top goal scorer, Georgia. From there, we switched on and battled through the last 20 minutes to the end of the match, going away 3-2 winners and securing our place in the quarter finals. This year so far has been one of our best and we hope to bring the trophy home, but only the final 3 games will determine that….
