We celebrated Refugee Week in school through a series of assemblies reflecting on the theme of ‘Courage’ and considering the way in which simple acts can make an enormous difference to the lives of refugees in our community. In the school library, starter activities guided students towards the Refugee Week book list . Some Year 7 classes have also read Refugee Boy by Benjamin Zephaniah in their class reading lessons throughout this half term. Reading is an excellent way to build empathy and allow students to understand more about other people’s lives and sharing a story is one of the ‘simple acts’ that we can carry out to build bridges between individuals and communities.
